Go Guardian

Our District is officially 1:1, where all students have access to chromebooks. To help keep your child safer and more scholarly online, we have adopted online services provided by GoGuardian.

It may be helpful to know that over 10,000 other schools use GoGuardian to protect 5.5 million students across the world, and the Global Educator Institute has endorsed the GoGuardian Teacher product.

How are we using Go Guardian as a district?

Management

  • Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material

  • Help students stay “scholarly” and more focused when learning online

  • Helping assess students’ progress towards class assignments

  • Facilitating communication between teachers and students during class time

Theft Recovery

Librarians & Media Specialists at each school can…

  • Help track WHERE your student device is if it is online

  • Help recover lost or stolen device

Important to know:

Every student is assigned a chromebook and charger. They are matched with their student ID and fines will be applied if a charger doesn’t match the student name.

Please encourage your student to not share their device with anyone--if someone else is using their device and they use the device inappropriately, it will register under their name.

How are we using Go Guardian in the classroom?

Teachers can…

  • Chat one on one with students (quick feedback)

  • See screen shots AND tabs students have open during that class

  • Can limit tabs open, distractions, inappropriate websites AND can exit of out tabs that are not necessary

  • Print out history for students (during the class time)

Reasons why it’s important:

  • Help see what students need help or more structure

  • Keep social media at a minimum

  • Less distractions

  • Keeping students focused on learning

Go Guardian enables teachers to use GoGuardian Teacher with students in their classes only during school hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

When and how does Go Guardian operate?

GoGuardian’s web-based services operate on our school’s managed Google Suite for Education Chrome accounts (i.e., when a student is logged into Chrome or a Chromebook with his/her school email address). This is an expectation.

When a student is off campus, parents are responsible for supervising internet access and usage. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child, and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her. We also highly encourage you to report any potential cyberbullying or other sensitive issues to us.

A letter from Go Guardian: @ home help

Good Morning,

Parenting has never been harder than it is today. Every generation of parents have been faced with new challenges. Our society's increased access to information, people, and technical devices is arguably the most daunting challenge to come along in a very long time. Technology is constantly changing our world and most recently, our educational system. As a parent, supporting your student in the digital age can be stressful, problematic, and exhausting. It can even be difficult to find help especially when you don't always know the right questions to ask.

Introducing Help @ Home

The goal of the Help @ Home project is to help parents become better connected with their student's digital lives. Sign up and you'll receive a weekly email with relevant information on modern-day parenting as it relates to technology, education, and Generation C. Some sample topics to be covered include:

  • Digital citizenship

  • Security and Privacy

  • Trolls, hoaxes, and scams

  • Filtering and monitoring technology use

  • Social Media & Instafamous dreams

  • Disconnecting (Healthy tech diet)

Help @ Home seeks to teach parents how to become a resource for their student(s), instead of a roadblock.

Help @ Home is free and is available to anyone. While the project is currently being sponsored by the Chagrin Falls Exempted School District, you do not have students in the district to sign up for this weekly communication.
